| Outlook
Express News Reader Setup |
|
| Setting up the Newsgroups in Outlook Express: |
| You can set up
Outlook Express to read the newsgroups. There are several important
settings you must make before you can use Outlook Express to read the
newsgroups. |
| Both the
OPSoftware and GOPD newsgroups are hosted on the same servers. You can use
either the OPSoftware or GOPD addresses. |
| Step 1: |
| Click this
link to start Outlook Express News Reader: news://gopd.com. |
| Once Outlook
Express News Reader loads, you will receive the following message: |
 |
| Be sure to
answer NO to this prompt. You must first set your account properties
before you can subscribe to the newsgroups. |
| Step 2: |
| Find the
"gopd.com" entry in your list of folders and right-click and
then choose Properties from the pop-up menu. |
 |
| Step 3: |
| You must set
the account properties before you can connect to the GOPD newsgroups. Make
sure these instructions are followed exactly to prevent problems
connecting. Incorrect settings in ANY of these fields can prevent you from
connecting or posting to the GOPD newsgroups. |
| The account
properties sheet consists of several tabs located at the top of the
screen. Only the "General" and "Server" tab needs to
be modified. Do not change any other settings! |
| Step 4 - General Tab
Settings: |
 |
| You must enter
all the information on this tab. This includes your name, your company
name, your email address and your reply address. Your reply address will
normally be the same as your email address. Check the box to "Include
this account when checking for new messages". |
| Important! If
you fail to enter ALL information on this tab, you will not be able to
post to the newsgroups! |
| Step 5 - Server Tab
Settings: |
 |
| You must check
the "This server requires me to log on" option and enter your
GOPD account information. |
|
You must enter your GOPD account number exactly as shown WITH the PROPNET\.
Substitute your account number for the 9999 in the example above. Please
note that the "back slash" between PROPNET and your account number is
required. You must also enter your GOPD password. Make sure this entry is in
LOWER CASE. If you do not enter the password in LOWER CASE, you will not be
able to access the newsgroups. You may also choose to select the
"Remember password" option.
|
|
Step 6 - Advanced Tab Settings:
|
|
| Step 7 -
Selecting the newsgroups: |
| Click on the
gopd.com entry from your folder. You should now answer Yes to the prompt
to see the list of available newsgroups and the following screen will
appear. Click the "Also search descriptions" box and allow the
re-downloading of descriptions when asked. This will provide the names of
the various newsgroups. |
 |
| Double-click
the newsgroups you registered for. Note that ALL newsgroups will be shown,
even those you may not be registered for. If you select a newsgroup that
you are not registered for, you will encounter problems with Outlook
Express when you attempt to read or post to the group. |
| Step 8 -
Selecting the download action: |
| After
selecting your newsgroups, you will need to specify the synchronization
actions to be performed. Click on the gopd.com newsgroup if not already
selected and a screen similar to the following will appear: |
 |
| You must check
the box next to "New messages only" and on each newsgroup before
any messages will be downloaded! Make sure that ALL your newsgroups have
this box checked before you continue! |
| Step 9 -
Downloading Messages: |
| Click the
"Synchronize Account" Button to download the current messages.
When you return to Outlook Express News Reader, you will need to click
this button again to download current messages. |
| Important! |
| You cannot
read or post to newsgroups unless your account is enabled for those
groups. Email support@gopd.com to
enable your account for additional newsgroups. |
